Latest on $15,000 Housing Tax Credit

by Glenn Elliot
From what I have been able to find out, the $15,000 housing tax credit in the stimulus bill has not been eliminated but has been reduced to $8,000. It seems that this is only for first-time buyers. But it also appears that the taxpayer does not have to pay it back.  If you want to keep the $15,000 housing credit, contact your Senators and Representatives and tell them "I want the $15,000 housing tax credit". Here are the NJ Senators and 9th District Representative. Click on the name to email them. Senator Bob Menendez     Senator Frank Lautenberg Congressman Steve Rothman You can find other NJ Congressmen here. You can contact the White House here. I contacted all of them today.

$15,000 tax credit removed from stimulous bill

by Glenn Elliot
It's hard to believe, but I understand that the $15,000 housing tax credit has been removed from th stimulous bill. What better way to stimulate the economy than to encourage people to buy houses? When someone buys a house they also buy insurance, carpeting, kitchens, flooring, They hire painters, carpeters, plumbers, roofers, movers, etc. This makes no sense!!!!

$15,000 Housing Tax Credit Proposed

by Glenn Elliot
Great news. The economic recovery bill that is now in the Senate contains a provision for a $15,000 tax credit for homebuyers. Unlike the $7,500 tax credit that was passed last year, this credit is for all home buyers who close on a home after the bill is signed into law. It is for all buyers, not just first-time buyers and does not have to be payed back. With the low interest rates that are available today, when this bill is passed, there will be no reason to wait to buy a house. To get more details on this proposed credit, click here.

The Importance of Good Credit

by Glenn Elliot

It has become increasingly important for buyers to maintain good credit when applying for a mortgage. The higher your credit score, the lower your interest rate. We have a number of reliable mortgage planners to call on who help us find the best loan for our clients. Then it’s a matter of the buyer doing their part.

First, you need to review your credit report for accuracy. The three main credit reporting agencies, Experion, Equifax, and Transunion will provide a free report each year, just for the asking. It’s a great program. And here’s a tip when ordering your reports: Instead of ordering all three reports at once, consider staggering your requests throughout the year, which will allow you to check your reports more frequently. Any mistakes on your report should be corrected immediately.

Second, make sure you pay your bills on time. This is huge. Up to 35% of our credit score is based on our payment history. Even if you’ve had a rough spot in the past, you can still bring up a low score by simply paying your bills each month.  Having a few open accounts will not hurt you as long as you are not abusing them. On the other hand, closing down accounts may look bad if done right before applying for your loan.
We should also note that mortgage companies are looking for ways to help. There are some great programs out there, even if you have less-than-perfect credit. Prospective buyers owe it to themselves to contact us for more details. We’re more than happy to help!
